ALOR SETAR - The Kedah Consumers Association (Cake) has asked the government to ensure that the supply of essential goods, especially chicken eggs and packet cooking oil are sufficient ahead of the Chinese New Year celebration on Jan 22.

Cake president Mohamad Yusrizal Yusoff said there are still shortage of chicken eggs in retail stores even though supply in supermarkets have recovered.

"The demand was high last week due to holiday season. We found the demand for eggs was high and the state faced shortage," he said after a visit at Pasar Besar Alor Setar today.

Yusrizal also raised concerns over packet cooking oil due to shortage in supply and over vegetables and chicken price hike.

Retailer Milatul Shamsul Mohd. Fauzi, 36, hopes the government will take firm measures to ensure the supply of both items was sufficient.
