GOMBAK - "I told the parents not to lock the grill gate," expressed the grandfather of the two siblings who burned to death in the pre-dawn fire incident today.

Lokman Marni, 53, said he repeatedly reminded his daughter and son-in-law of this, just in case something undesirable happened.

"I have reminded them not to lock the grill gate when they go out, as I was worried if something bad would happen.

"I've never expected this to happen to my grandchildren. I surrender to the Almighty, Allah SWT, for he has loved them more," he said when met at the location of the incident.

He said the fire occurred when his daughter and son-in-law stepped out of the house to eat at about 3 am.

"I was told they had both gone out to eat when the incident occurred during a phone call."

"My daughter wasn't able to go into the house as the fire and rescue officers were putting out the fire," he added.

Lokman expressed his utmost grief over the passing of his two grandchildren, as their parents wait for the arrival of their third child soon.

"My daughter is expecting her third child now; she is eight months pregnant. This is definitely unbearable grief for all of us.

"The last time I met with my grandchildren was on Dec 26, at my birthday celebration in Sabak Bernam," he added.

He said both siblings were acting normally when they met.

"They both were very special and loving to me, they both were acting normally when I met them," he added.

A nine-year-old girl and her younger brother perished in a pre-dawn fire this morning, at a terrace house in Jalan Dewan Simpang Tiga Kampung Tanggut.

The victims were identified as Nur Syafiza Alfisya Muhammad Fauzan and her six-year-old brother, Muhammad Al Qayyum Muhammad Fauzan.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 3.45am.

He said 17 firemen from the Gombak and Rawang Fire and Rescue stations, along with four fire engines, were deployed to the scene to control and put out the fire.

Norazam said the grill gate at the entrance of the door was locked, and the victims' parents were not present when the fire broke out.

It was believed that the siblings had tried to escape the fire through the grill gate, however, it was locked based on the positioning of the body.
