MERSING - A dolphin weighing about 35 kilograms (kg) was found stranded in the coastal area of ​​Air Papan Beach today.

Mersing Civil Defense Force (APM) officer Nurnajibah Abdullah said the dolphin was found by officers when they were about to put up a warning flag up at around 8.48am.

"The dolphin had an injury on its tail when we found it.

"The dolphin was stranded at a distance of 800 meters from the sea tower. Officers released the dolphin but failed due to high tide and strong waves," she said in a statement.

She said APM Mersing then the Fisheries department for further action.

"Officers from the department came to the location and took the dolphin to be released in Teluk Buih, Mersing.

"During the incident the weather was clear, and the area is typically where dolphins usually pass," she said.
