246 drunk drivers arrested in Petaling Jaya throughout 2022
PETALING JAYA - A total of 246 individuals have been arrested by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol, here, this year.
Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Fakhrudin Abdul Hamid said statistics from January to December recorded 85 operations involving 9,741 drivers.
The operation, dubbed Ops Alcohol was carried out by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division (BSPT) of the Petaling Jaya District Police Headquarters (IPD).
"Among the arrests, six of them were foreigners.
"To date, 194 individuals were charged in the Petaling Jaya Court under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 which resulted them for a minimum fine of RM10,000 and a maximum of RM30,000, imprisonment of up to two years and disqualification of license for two years," he said in a statement on Friday.
He added that the police were also taking further action to charge the remaining arrestees.
He said that even though many operations were carried out, IPD Petaling Jaya still managed to nab drunk drivers.
"Strict legal action will be taken to ensure the safety of road users, especially in the Petaling Jaya administrative area," he explained.
