SHAH ALAM - Former health minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad is questioning whether the government is ready to deal with a new wave of Covid-19 from China, following the situation which is still critical.

The Kuala Selangor MP said many Chinese citizens were tested positive for Covid-19 in Italy when authorities tested the arrivals from China at the Milan Airport, recently.

"With more than 50 per cent of Chinese citizens tested positive (for Covid-19) upon arrival at Milan Airport, the global coordination level needed to be more prepared.

"Is Malaysia ready?" he asked in a tweet on Thursday.

Citing international reports, he said Malaysia was among the top 10 countries chosen by Chinese citizens to travel to.

This was according to a search on Trip.com Group's website.

The operator of the website also listed several other countries that were chosen by the citizens such as Japan, Thailand, South Korea, United States, Singapore, Australia, United Kingdom, Macau and Hong Kong.

Previously, China’s National Health Commission announced that tourists who arrived in the country will no longer need to be quarantined starting Jan 8, next year, thus ending the nearly three-year policy.
