SHAH ALAM - Parents incapable of looking after their young ones are told to seek help from the Social Welfare Department, said Malaysian Drug Prevention Association (Pemadam).

This comes after a four-year old death after being abused by his 19-year old sister's friends. The child was under the care of his teenage sister after his parents were prisoned for drug charges.

Pemadam's Women, Family and Prevention Bureau Chairman Datuk Jamelah A Bakar said the department need to cooperate with the Education Ministry to carry out survey on the child's welfare if their parents were in prison.

"The emotional and physical changes in a child could be seen by teachers or officials and immediate action should be taken," she said.

On Dec 12, a father had abused and killed his nine-year-old daughter and buried her body at a roadside in Taman Dusun Bandar, Jalan Bellamy, Kuala Lumpur.

Jamelah said a parenting course must be introduced to married couples.

"The campaign and course towards a peaceful household, marriage and family such as Rumahku Syurgaku, Keluarga Bahagia, Keluarga Sakinah Mawaddah Warahmah is a must for families.

"The parenting course is a must or married couples," she said.
