SHAH ALAM - Mental Health Aid Association (Nyawa) is focused on making mental health care accessible to the often overlooked Orang Asli community.

In collaboration with My Mind on Film (MMOF), Nyawa and MMOF will be hosting a charity film screening of a mental health-themed short film “Layar Perak” on Friday (Dec 30).

All proceeds from the event will go to Nyawa’s Inisiatif Menyantuni project, which provides subsidised therapy sessions to the underprivileged.

Nyawa Director and Co-Founder Farihin Ufiya said the initiative had successfully subsidised over a thousand sessions for those who were truly in need.

“The initiative has successfully subsidised over a thousand sessions for the B40 community since we started in March with applications being filled within 24 hours,” she said.

Farihin stated that Inisiatif Menyantuni 4.0 this year will now focus on the Orang Asli community.

“We have not identified the communities yet but Majlis Amanah Rakyat (Mara) Jelebu will assist us in this as they've done several education entrepreneurship projects with them,” she said.

She also said due to a lack of data on the mental health of Orang Asli, the project includes a needs-based analysis.
