Thief in a telekung nabbed by police

Shah Alam District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the man was arrested after two reports of thefts were made at a different mosques in Seksyen 18, Shah Alam on Tuesday.
The first report was made by a 60-year-old woman who suffered losses of RM2,000 after her bag which contained house keys, the mosque store keys and her phone were stolen while she was performing her Subuh (pre-dawn) prayers.
"In an incident at another mosque in Seksyen 18 a second report was made by a 58-year-old woman who stated her bag with her phone in it was stolen.
" The victims items were stolen while she was performing her Isya ( night) prayers.," he said in a statement on Friday.
Mohd Iqbal elaborated that the closed-circuit cameras (CCTV) footage at the two locations found the suspect was a local man wearing jeans using the modus operandi of wearing a white telekung to enter the women's prayer areas and taking their valuables and belongings while they prayed.
He said, the suspect in his 20s was arrested around Seksyen 18, Shah Alam on Friday at 12.05am.
"The police have confiscated two phones that were stolen ," he said.
He stated the suspect had one prior record of a drug case and four other criminal cases and was remanded for four days until Monday for further investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code.
The incident was reported to have gone viral on social media in a 43-second recording.
