PAPAR - A woman died after being crushed by a fallen fig tree in Kampung Laut Kinarut, here, on Thursday evening.

In the 2.30pm incident the victim Katizah Juani, 55, passed away as she suffered from severe injuries.

Papar District Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Rozlan Osman said the department received a call regarding the incident at 2.59pm.

He said, a total of 13 firemen went to the scene of the incident which is around 18 kilometers away from BBP Papar.

"According to the report, a fig tree fell and hit three houses causing 80 percent damage.

"There was a female victim who was hit by the falling fig tree, our men had to cut the tree using a chain saw before removing the victim," he said in a statement.

The victim was later confirmed dead by a medical officer at the scene of the incident.

"The victim was then handed over to the police for further action. The fire department then ensured the area was safe before the operation ended at 5.29pm," Rozlan said.
