The decision was made by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim in a cabinet meeting today.
"The implementation date is still awaiting the Yang di-Pertuan Agong's approval," he said during a press conference after chairing the weekly Cabinet meeting on Wednesday.
He said the decision was part of the government's efforts to uphold the 1963 Malaysia Agreement ( MA63 )
"The transfer of power had happened once in Sarawak," he said.
He said after the implementation of the transfer of regulatory powers, Sabah can continue any negotiations regarding gas supply at the state level without having to wait for the Federal government.
"The power to set the price and the new agreement used to be decided at the federal level but with this transfer of power, the state will now be able to manage it on its own.
"However, there is a consultation process that we need to conduct first but that power would go to the state government," he said.
Anwar said the MA63 Committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof was given a month from now to decide on some new matters.
"Insya-Allah in early January we will present some better progress to solve most of the issues raised," he said.
Anwar said there were a few matters related to the amendment of the law that need to be postponed until the next Parliament session.
