Don't let the world believe Malaysia's PM is a homosexual - Opposition chief
HAJAR UMIRA MD ZAKI KOUSALYA SELVAMKUALA LUMPUR: Don't let the world believe that Malaysia's Prime Minister is a homosexual, opposition chief Hamzah Zainudin said while debating the motion of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat today.
He said Anwar should take action against the reports that accused him of homosexuality as it would tarnish the nation's image. The August house became tense after Hamzah cited a news report entitled “Malaysia: first full-blown homosexual prime minister in an Islamic country” by a foreign news agency known as Agenzianova.
“It insults the Prime Minister but stern action has to be taken. The government has the responsibility to inform the whole world that the Prime Minister has been pardoned by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong,” Hamzah said.
He added that Umno had sacked Anwar in 1998 from his position as a Deputy Prime Minister, but now Umno elected him as the Prime Minister.
" Umno did not want him then now Umno can accept him." he said Hamzah went on to elaborate that Anwar was also sentenced by the High Court and then pardoned.
“Don’t let the world believe that the Prime Minister of Malaysia is a homosexual. This is an old matter. I urge the PM to sue Agenzianova,” he added to chaotic shouts from the floor.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) then called on the Speaker to demand Hamzah to retract his “rude” and “impolite” remarks.
Opposition MP’s then went on to shout that Anwar's homosexuality was a fact, which later erupted into a shouting match from MPs from both sides.
Earlier Hamzah who was the first of the 12 MPs to debate the motion of confidence for Anwar's leadership called the motion a ' gimmick' by the unity government.
He stressed that the MOU between the members of the government was restricting and an insult to the Malaysian parliamentary process as all members were forced to vote for a single candidate.
Earlier Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof had moved the a motion of confidence in the Dewan Rakyat in support of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s leadership.
While tabling the motion, Fadillah (BN -Petrajaya) also acknowledged that this is the first time in history that a unity government is in power, following a hung parliament situation.
Fadillah said it is important for the unity government under Anwar to secure the confidence of lawmakers in view of the projected economic downturn in 2023.
“This will strengthen the confidence of investors, the business community and the people,” he said while adding that the support obtained will allow the unity government to give its best to the people.
