Dewan Rakyat: Election of new speaker
The first sitting of the 15th Parliament
KUALA LUMPUR: The first sitting of the 15th Parliament, happening today will set the tone for further meetings of the Dewan Rakyat under Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's unity government.
The first order in the House will be the election of a new Speaker, the meeting started with a nomination by Anwar for Datuk Johari Abdul to be elected Dewan Rakyat speaker.
Meanwhile opposition leader Hamzah Zainuddin (PN-Larut) nominated former home minister Tan Sri Mohd Radzi Sheikh Ahmad for the position. Dewan Rakyat Secretary Nizam Mydin Bacha Mydin then called for a vote as there is more than one nominee.
The vote is currently ongoing.
