Footy Forum: Former youth and sports minister's son plays football abroad
SHAH ALAM - Former Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu’s only son is currently playing soccer in the United Kingdom.
Disclosing the matter at Sinar Daily's Footy Forum, Ahmad Faizal said his son previously studied in a local sports school since 13 years old but was now abroad with his daughter.
“He was in a sports school and decided to play football in the UK, so we sent him there with his sister.
“And they played locally. In fact, I think two years ago there was a school club there. They wanted to sign him but unfortunately he was not allowed unless he’s playing for the national team,” he said.
Though Faizal saw the talent and drive of his son, the former Tambun MP sighed in relief as he preferred his son to focus more on his study.
Meanwhile, National Coaches Association Vice President Datuk Richard Scully encouraged Malaysians to not just excell in football but in the academics as well.
“You have to know what are the terms and conditions in the contract which these are comprising academics.
“So taking a cue from what Ahmad Faizal said, there was a message out there which is be bold, be brave and go out there and see the world. Of course you come back as Malaysian, it’s a win-win situation,” he said.
They spoke during the Footy Forum: THE FINALE hosted by Rizal Hashim and also featured another guest speaker, Amira Amirudin.
