Teenager drowned, two others survive while swimming at Kuala Penyu
KUALA PENYU - A teenage boy was found drowned while two of his friends survived while they were swimming at Kampung Tempurung beach here on Saturday.
The victim, Ikhwan Haikal Kamis, 17, was found about 50 metres from the beach by villagers at 6.15am on Sunday.
Two other victims, known as Mohamad Aizat aged 15 and Mohamad Hafizan aged 17 were being treated at Kuala Penyu Hospital.
Kuala Penyu Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) chief Awang Mohd Sabree said he received a distress call on the incident at 4.36pm on Thursday.
A total of five members were deployed to the scene of the incident which is located 23 kilometres from Kuala Penyu fire station.
"It is understood that all the victims from Beaufort had come to visit the graves of their family members in Kuala Penyu and had stopped at the beach to swim.
"In that incident, two victims were saved by the villagers, however another victim was carried away by the current due to the strong waves yesterday," he said when contacted by Sinar Harian on Sunday.
He said, the search and rescue (SAR) operation was immediately carried out using the search method on the surface of the water.
"A search was made at a location two kilometres from where the victim was reported missing but did not find any signs before the operation was suspended at 7.07pm.
"However, the victim was finally found this morning by the villagers floating," he explained.
