Anwar testing support for his leadership, Muhyiddin loses support - Mahfuz
ALOR SETAR - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s bold move to hold a vote of confidence against him at the Dewan Rakyat session on December 19 proves that he is a leader of integrity.
Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) vice president Datuk Mahfuz Omar said Anwar’s action could assure the community and the world that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman was a leader concerned about transparency.
He said at a time when the country was waiting for the results of Anwar’s vote of confidence as the Prime Minister, it also witnessed former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin who faced a vote of no confidence from Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Sabah who declared to leave the party.
“Right now, everyone is looking forward to the first parliamentary session under Anwar’s leadership.
“The people are excitedly looking forward to Anwar’s brave act of presenting a motion of confidence against him to obtain legitimacy as Prime Minister, despite having received the approval of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to take the oath as the nation’s premier,” he said.
Mahfuz said it was surprising when Muhyiddin, as Bersatu President lost the support of his own party members after four MPs from Bersatu Sabah and 15 members of the Sabah State Assembly (ADUN) and two senators left the party.
“We are waiting to see what will happen to Anwar. Will the Unity Government fall, especially Anwar himself, will he lose his majority in Parliament?
“Suddenly, Muhyiddin is faced with a trust issue from Bersatu Sabah, which is led by the Sabah Chief Minister himself.
“This means that Muhyiddin is facing a crisis of trust from within his own party,” he said.
Mahfuz emphasised that this was the second time the Perikatan Nasional chairman faced such a crisis.
“The first time was when he became Prime Minister and was faced with no confidence vote from MPs which caused him to lose the position.
“Now he lost the trust as Bersatu president and PN chairman,” he said.
Mahfuz said that based on the comments of political observers, the Bersatu Sabah members left the party because they could not accept the politics of racial conflict and the doctrine of hatred brought by PN.
“The PN agenda is feared to damage the harmony of communities of various races and religions in Borneo, especially in Sabah.
“It is very unfortunate for Muhyiddin to witness the withdrawal of support for him after the 15th General Election (GE15) ended.
“I believe PN is waiting for the moment of their collapse. We will wait and see,” he said.
