HULU SELANGOR - The search and rescue (SAR) operations for the 12 missing victims after the deadly landslide in Batang Kali continue with the help and expertise of the K9 tracker dog units.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department chief Datuk Norazam Khamis said a total of seven K9 dogs were used to search for the remaining victims.

This was especially important since the dogs were trained to track down and identify location of bodies either buried in the ground or water.

“The K9 dogs are used to track and identify the victims.

“They are also trained to track bodies on land or water,” he told reporters during a press conference today.

Norazam said the location where the SAR was focused on were based on camping items found within the area.

"These camping items are an indication for rescue teams to carry out operations in the area," he said.

Norazam said the operation on the second day would continue for 24 hours, but it might be delayed if there was heavy rain.

"There are no findings in the affected area as of 11am, however, the SAR efforts are still ongoing.

"We have also decided that the SAR would continue up until the seventh day (if needed)," he said.

As of 11am, the number of fatalities remained at 21 and rescuers were actively searching for the remaining victims.

A total of 61 people have been rescued.
