No victims from Bentong have been identified - Young Syefura

GOHTONG - The search and rescue mission for the landslide victims will stop if it rains due to safety reasons.

Bentong member of parliament, Young Syefura Othman said the authorities had informed her that they would have to halt the sar mission temporarily if it continues to rain.

" The search and rescue team are working hard to find the victims, I was told that they will continue until they have found the last missing victim, so far no victims from Bentong have been identified," she said when met by reporters here.

Young said she had also heard that some of the victims were students and teachers who had gone camping near the Father's Organic Farm in Batang Kali where the landslide occured.

It was reported that the Selangor Fire and Rescue department received an emergency call at 2.24am and arrived at the scene about 3am.

The rescue team involved in the search and rescue mission include those from Kuala Kubu Bharu, Rawang, Genting Highlands, Sentosa, Ampang, Pandan, Kota Anggerik, Kajang and Andalas fire stations.

Identities of all the victims have yet to be ascertained, it was reported earlier there were about 100 victims possibly trapped under the rubble

As of 1pm, 16 people were reported dead and 17 missing, the search-and-rescue operations for missing people are ongoing with 200 personnel on-site.
