HULU SELANGOR - Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution had instructed that all outdoor recreational activities around Batang Kali to be ceased immediately.

This was following the deadly landslide which occurred this morning, burrying three campsites.

"We request for all camp operators in this district not to accept any visitors ," he said in a press conference today.

Saifuddin said during this school holiday season, many Malaysians are engaging in outdoor activities such as camping. This is becoming a popular activity, he added.

"Recently, I had met with camping equipment vendors who informed that Malaysians are now involved in outdoor activities whereby purchases of gear and equipments have risen by 40 per cent.

"This was a great leap from the pandemic phase," he added.

He said, however, these activities could possibly lead to mishaps which can lead to loss of life.

"People should take appropriate precautions and the police should advise visitors to check and delay trips according to weather conditions and choose a safer holiday location," he added.

Thirteen people have been killed so far and seven injured in the early morning incident. Search and rescue operations are under way for 25 others.
