PUTRAJAYA - The public has been advised to be aware of the weather warnings issued by local authorities and to take the warnings seriously.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil Fahmi Fadzil said the move was to prevent any unwanted incidents from happening.

"What happened at the campsite is saddening.

"I hope everyone takes the warning from the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) seriously," he told a press conference today after an assembly with the ministry’s staff.

He said the ministry would examine how the warning system issued by the authorities could be focused on risky activities.

"I have discussed with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) whether we could increase the warning system in hotspots," he said.

Fahmi said this as he commented on the landslide incident that occurred in Batang Kali early Friday morning.

As of 11am on Friday, a total of 13 victims were confirmed dead in the landslide tragedy that occurred near Father's Organic Farm camping site in Gohtong Jaya.
