Batang Kali landslide: Eight killed, seven injured as of 9.15am
SHAH ALAM - The National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) confirms that a total of eight victims were killed in a landslide at a campsite in Batang Kali which takes place earlier today.
In a statement, the agency said that as of 9.15am a total of 92 victims were found.
“Initial investigation revealed that 53 victims were found safe, seven sustained injuries, while eight victims were killed.
“Search and rescue (SAR) efforts are ongoing,” Nadma posted on its Twitter account.
Earlier, Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said firefighters arrived at the scene at about 3am after receiving a distress call at 2.24am.
The height of the landslide was estimated to be 30 meters above the campsite and covered an area of about three acres.
The SAR efforts were carried out by the Fire and Rescue Department along with other agencies including Volunteer Fire Brigade, Private Fire Brigade, police, Civil Defence Force (APM), Health Ministry and the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) Team
