Batang Kali landslide: Two including a child killed, 51 still missing

SHAH ALAM - Two people killed while 51 were still missing after a landslide struck a campsite in Batang Kali earlier today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department in a statement today said as of 7am, there were a total of 79 victims at the camp site when the incident took place,

“A total of 23 people were saved, two people died while 51 people were still unaccounted for.

“The search and rescue efforts are still are still being carried out by the Fire Department and are being assisted by other agencies such as the Volunteer Fire Brigade, Private Fire Brigade, police, Civil Defence Force (APM), Health Ministry and the Special Malaysia Disaster Assistance and Rescue Team (SMART) Team,” the statement read.

It was learnt that one of the victim killed was a child but details of the victim had yet to be released.

Earlier, the department received a distress call on the incident at 2.24am.

The landslide occurred near a farmhouse that provides camping facilities.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director Datuk Norazam Khamis said firefighters began arriving at the scene at about 3am after receiving a distress call at 2.24am.
