Anwar, who is also Tambun MP, claimed that Sanusi had slandered him in a speech at a Perikatan Nasional (PN) hustings in Tambun on November 13, when the latter was out campaigning for the coalition's candidate for said parliamentary seat, Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu.

Sanusi's litigious remark concerning Anwar's royal pardon in 2018 was broadcasted live through Facebook under an account called 'Faizal Azumu'.

According to Anwar, the allegations made by the Jeneri assemblyman have damaged his reputation as PKR president, Pakatan Harapan chairman, Tambun MP and now as the 10th Prime Minister and Finance Minister.

Anwar claimed that the speech implied that he had abused his power and position and also a liar.
