SHAH ALAM - Firefighters arrived too late to save a family's burning home in Kelana Jaya, Selangor, claims family member Alyaa Azhar.

She said her aunt was in the house when she suddenly heard noises from the fuse box, a minute later fire had struck the home.

Home alone and stunned by the situation, she said her aunt had grabbed her mobile phone and dialed for 999 but was passed around and asked with so many questions, delaying the whole rescue process.

The fire took place late yesterday evening (Dec 12).

"Finally when the firefighters arrived, it was already too late but thank god the fire did not harm my aunt or spread to the neighbour's house," she told Sinar Daily.

She said however that the kitchen, dining and living area as well as the porch were completely burned.

Alyaa said her cousins were not home during the incident and had immediately shown up when they received the distress call from their mother.

She said one of her cousins suffered slight burns thinking that her mother was still inside.

"Fortunately, nothing fatal took place.

"Their cat was quite traumatised and was saved by the firefighter as it was still in the house during the incident. It was immediately brought to the vet and is now recuperating," she added.

She also stressed the importance of having a fire extinguisher at home which she believes could have minimised the effects of the fire.

A donation drive has been established to help the family post-fire, details stated in the poster below.
