It’s confirmed, Shafiq Abdullah no longer Public Services Department DG
SHAH ALAM – Chief Secretary of Government Tan Sri Mohd Zuki Ali today confirms that the service of Public Services Department (PSD) director-general Datuk Seri Mohd Shafiq Abdullah has been terminated effective last Sunday.
In a statement, Zuki said the decision was made after they went through the procedures for termination for the public interest and it had been examined by the Attorney-General’s Chamber.
“The termination was undertaken in accordance with the Regulation 49(3) of the Public Officers (Conduct and Discipline) 1993 and to be retired by virtue of Section 10(5)(d) of the Pension Act 1980 which allowed him to enjoy the retirement benefits which he is entitled to.
"The decision was taken after going through all the procedures for Termination in the Public Interest (PDKA) and scrutinised for regularity by the Attorney General's Chamber," the statement read.
Zuki said that on behalf of the government, he expressed his deepest appreciation and gratitude to Mohd Shafiq for his service and devotion to the country as a civil servant.
Yesterday, it has been circulated that Shafiq had been terminated from his post in PSD.
Previously, Shafiq had been involved in a controversy when he was accused of uttering abusive words towards a Malaysian Immigration Department (Immigration) officer who was on duty at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).
PSD however denied the accusation and explained that Shafiq only reprimanded the Immigration officer, particularly Chief Assistant Superintendent James Lee regarding non-compliance with practices and procedures.
However, several parties including Selangor BN Communications Chief Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunos came forward to call on Shafiq to honourably resign from his position due to his moral issues which were deemed to tarnish the image of the public service.
