SHAH ALAM - Malaysian Employers Federation (MEF) welcomes the health ministry move to combat period poverty problems among workers by giving free sanitary pads to woman especially from B40 group.

Its president Datuk Dr Syed Hussain Syed Husman said MEF agrees and support the initiative by the newly-appointed health minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa.

"The women are equal too in contributing to economic, family and country, therefore women's health is crucial and should start from basic self-care such as hygiene during menstruation.

"The initiative by our health minister to enact a stricter policy is expected to see more engagement agencies, as well as private sector employers especially for workers who are woman," he said in a statement today.

Due to the rising menstrual poverty problem in the country, MEF has urged employers to join hands with the health ministry to raise awareness and distribute free sanitary pads to female employees.
