One last chance for Najib to be free, says daughter
SHAH ALAM - The daughter of former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, Nooryana Najwa says her father will be free to return home if the SRC case review in 2023 is successful.
In her Instagram post on Dec 7, she said a new round of legal review for her father's SRC case is scheduled to start on Jan 19 next year and by this time, "all hands are on deck" to make sure her father gets the justice he deserves.
She was referring to Najib bid to have the Federal Court revisit its previous decision to uphold his conviction and 12-year jail sentence and RM210 million fine in the SRC case will be coming up in the courts in January next year.
Nooryana said she wants her father to receive a fair trial and listed 6 reasons her father was wrongfully prevented from receiving a trial.
They were: Najib’s application to include 40 new and solid pieces of evidence was rejected, despite being related to the case, Najib’s lawyer was denied a time extension and the case had to proceed when his lawyer had just taken over the case.
She said Najib’s lawyer was not allowed to withdraw which denied Najib access to defend himself in the Federal Court and High Court judge who has no experience in a criminal case did not state his “conflict of interest” in SRC and 1MDB.
She also said former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Tommy Thomas rejected all recommendations from the Judicial Appointments Commission to appoint judges of their choice in 2018 and 2019, which violated the Judicial Appointments Commission Act 2009.
"The written judgment of the Federal Court was leaked before the defense even took place," she added.
Najib is under trial on 21 counts of money laundering involving RM2.3 billion and four counts of exploiting his position to obtain bribes totaling RM2.3 billion from 1MDB funds.
The Federal Court upheld the former Pekan MP's conviction for stealing RM42 million from SRC International Sdn Bhd funds on August 23 of this year, and he is now serving a 12-year prison sentence in the Kajang Prison.
