GOMBAK - The supply of eggs and cooking oil in Selangor is stable and consistent.

Selangor Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry (KPDNKSH) Chief Enforcement Officer Mohd Khairi Jamaludin said he had organised a work movement based on locality to carry out daily inspections.

The inspections were carried out on prices and availability of supplies of basic consumer goods in each distribution chain in Selangor.

He said based on the inspections carried out, the supply of one kilogram (kg) of cooking oil packets was stable and there were no issues of a lack of supply.

"The government's directive is to limit the purchase to three packets per purchase was rational to ensure that every buyer could enjoy the supply of subsidised cooking oil in the market.

"The supply of eggs have also been consistent in the market and there have been no reports of supplies going out of stock within a long period, if there was it would occur locally and the supply would recover within a reasonable period of time.

"There's no doubt that there is a situation where the purchase of eggs was limited in terms of grade, type and number of chicken eggs.

Even if such limitations were to happen, the supply is not in a critical state and we are still able to cater to the needs of buyers," he said after conducting an inspection at a supermarket, here, on Monday.

"A total of 183 traders have been prosecuted for various offences, including selling above the maximum price, failing to put up special pink price tags and failing to display price tags.

"The cases resulted in a compound collection amounting to RM42,400," he stated.
