Wan Saiful asks for the government to reject push to exit CPTPP

SHAH ALAM - Tasik Gelugor MP Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has urged the government to reject the push to exit from the Comprehensive and Progressive Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) Agreement.

He said if the Malaysian's participation in the CPTPP was cancelled, it will not only harm the people of Tasek Gelugor but Malaysians in general Saiful stated that the previous administration's action to ratify the CPTPP was the correct action.

"CPTPP was expected to give access to new international markets such as Mexico, Peru and Canada.

"With the CPTPP, Malaysia's value in total trades is expected to increase to RM3.05 trillion in 2030 while Malaysia's exports will reach 1.65 trillion in 2030.

"CPTPP will provide benefits for the people including Tasek Gelugor constituents where I'm their MP," he wrote in a Facebook post on Monday.

The media previously reported that the unity government led by Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was pushed towards pulling from ratifying the CPTPP. The push was made by 24 economists, 57 non-governmental organizations (NGOs), 10 trade unions and more than 50 individuals after finding out that the ratification agreement will have a big impact on the national economy.

Saiful said many Tasek Gelugor residents worked in the industrial areas nearby.

"The introduction of the investment and the transfer of new technology as well as opportunities to improve the skills of the workforce through the CPTPP will certainly enable my constituents to gain a higher income in the future. This was the benefit from the trade and the economic market system," he said.

The Bersatu Information Chief claimed that the Pakatan Harapan (PH) - Barisan Nasional (BN) government had yet to govern for even a month and the anti-trade left-wing groups have started to speak.

"This is the result of the formation of a leftist government in our country.

"The people need to be aware of this. If the PH-BN government pays attention to these groups, it is yet another proof of the contagion of the leftist sociopolitical ideology in Malaysia," he explained.

He said since the time of the first Prime Minister, the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-Haj, Malaysia has been always been a country of trade.

"We are a country of commerce and market economy. Our economy thrives when we trade regionally and internationally," he said.
