Anwar's choice of cabinet disappointing - Muhyiddin
SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin criticises Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's cabinet choice, saying as if the latter is pawning the nation's pride.
The former prime minister in a statement also deemed Anwar's action as disappointing for appointing an individual with court case as the deputy prime minister.
"This kleptocrat cabinet formed on the basis of fraud against the mandate of the people does not have any legitimacy to function as the highest executive body of the country.
"He himself, as Prime Minister held the position of Finance Minister, a practice that led to the centralisation of power and large-scale embezzlement as happened in the case of 1 Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) before.
"How can the people and investors believe in Anwar's leadership when it turns out that he lied to the whole world about the anti-corruption agenda, institutional reform and defending the fate of the common people," he said, in a statement on his Facebook account.
Moreover, it was claimed that controversial issues could possibly arise upon the appointment of parliamentary members who were known for their extreme chauvinism.
He claimed that extreme racist policies agenda could also be introduced by the appointment of the newly-minted cabinet.
Muhyiddin further questioned of Anwar's worth as a leader when he could not even stand up in defence of his own party's struggle to fight against corruption and promote good governance.
"Our country's system is broken when morally bankrupt and principled individuals can be appointed to lead the country and those involved in corruption crimes are members of the cabinet.
"The sense of responsibility and compassion towards the people is gone and the people have also lost faith in the pillars of the country's leadership," he said.
