In a statement today, Shopee Malaysia said the online shopping platform users can contribute to those in need by donating a minimum of RM1 to the cause via the #ShopeeGivesBack store at https://shopee.com.my/m/ShopeeGivesBack-Flood and Donation Entrance (applicable on Android only) on the Shopee app, from today onwards.
"#ShopeeGivesBack will be partnering with Shopee Supermarket to support the flood relief initiatives of Malaysian Red Crescent Kuala Lumpur (MRCKL), Food Aid Foundation and MyFundAction by contributing RM100,000 worth of cash and in-kind donations to help flood victims,” it said.
Shopee Malaysia Head of Marketing Campaigns Kenneth Soh said he believed it is crucial for them to provide a helping hand to those in need as the monsoon floods become more unpredictable.
"Be it in the form of emotional support, helping out in flood shelters or in the form of a monetary donation, every little effort counts. Our Flood Relief campaign aims to unite Malaysians to join us and be a part of a greater cause,” he was quoted as saying in the statement.
The statement noted that on Nov 28, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) had issued warnings of continuous rain at the alert level in Terengganu, Kelantan, Pahang and Sabah, with rain and thunderstorm expected to happen for more than six hours during the period.
MRCKL dedicates its service to providing care and relief assistance to communities in need and aims to provide a wide range of activities and services from disaster response relief, healthcare and welfare services to first aid and CPR training programs.
Meanwhile, Food Aid Foundation’s flood relief plans come in the form of Emergency Flood Aid and Post Flood Relief where the former provides ready-to-eat and cooked meals to flood victims in centres waiting for flood water to recede while the latter supplies basic food items, hygiene packs and basic cooking facilities to families once they return home.
MyFundAction, on the other hand, has assisted over 3,600 families with their Flood Assistance in the past year and is looking to support another 400 families with the support raised through the relief fund and will provide mobile clinics, psychological first aid, basic hygiene kit, along with food aids to the victims. - BERNAMA
