KOTA KINABALU – Give Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim the space to lead the country, says Warisan president Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal.

He said the unity government formed on the advice of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Riayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah was a pillar for the country to move forward.

“We must give space for Anwar to lead the country because he has the experience as well, it is not as if he had no experience.

“I’m confident if we give him the space he needs. It was His Majesty’s advice that we form a unity government that becomes a pillar.

“Unity is essential for a prosperous nation to move forward,” he told reporters on Friday.

He said this when asked about his views regarding Anwar’s appointment as the 10th Prime Minister after the 15th General Election (GE15).

When asked about the most important role that could be given to him at the Federal Level, the former Sabah Chief Minister stated he had not received any information regarding it.

“I did not hear anything regarding it. I have not met with Anwar. I will meet with him next week.

“Maybe after the State Assembly sitting next week,” he said.

Shafie said regarding the collaboration with Warisan and PH that his party had previously experienced working together with PH in GE14.

“We have worked with PH previously, we had our experience in GE14, so there are no questions for us to work closely together.

“We are also among the earliest to state our support to Anwar and Barisan Nasional (BN). I have stated earlier that if there was a party that could form the government I believe because PH had 82 majority seats won by them in the election with BN was enough for them to form a government with the total of 112,” he said.
