DPM: Tok Mat is the most suitable candidate

SEREMBAN - Umno Deputy President Datuk Seri Mohamad Hassan is considered to be the best candidate as Deputy Prime Minister (DPM).

This was agreed upon by some Pakatan Harapan and Umno leaders in Negeri Sembilan.

Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun said Mohamad seemed like a leader whose character could be suitable for the Deputy Prime minister post.

"However, the power is choose and submit names for consideration is still the party's (Umno) prerogativ, if the position is given to Umno "Personally, if the DPM comes from Negeri Sembilan the more I will support it and at the Negeri Sembilan level I will support it if Tok Mat (Mohamad) is appointed as DPM," he said to reporters when met at state assembly today.

He said he believed that Umno had many leaders who have a long and varied experience.

Negeri Sembilan State Assembly Speaker Datuk Zulkefly Mohamad Omar described Mohamad as a capable leader coupled with his background in economics.

"His performance is also good. His experience as Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar for three terms alone is enough if he was chosen as DPM.

"If that's what the prime minister chose, that's the best. The important thing is the leader chosen could help drive the country's economy and we need a person with experience," he said.

Meanwwhile Negeri Sembilan State Assembly Deputy Speaker Datuk M Ravi agreed Zulkefly and admitted he had no problem with whoever who was appointed to the post.

However, he agreed that Mphamed has the experience for the post.

"Tok Mat is a good leader and in terms of qualifications, he has no problems.

"His achievements as the opposition here has been good and he respects the state government." Ravi added.

Tampin MP Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa also described Mohamad as the most suitable candidate for the DPM post.

"It is in line with his experience as the previous Negeri Sembilan Menteri Besar where he had been very successful during his tenure< Mohd Issam added Negeri Sembilan Umno Deputy Chairman Datuk Ismail Lasim had also described Mohamad as the most suitable candidate from Umno for the post based on his experience and economic background.
