SHAH ALAM - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has announced that it will play a check and balance role in the Malaysian Parliament instead of joining the unity government led by Pakatan Harapan (PH).

The decision was announced by PN chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin following an earlier statement by Pas -- a component party of PN -- stating that it will consider the offer to join the unity government.

"With the Federal Government led by Pakatan Harapan, Perikatan Nasional will play the role of 'check and balance' in the Malaysian Parliament by bringing the voice of the people in line with the principles of Parliamentary Democracy," he said in a Facebook post today.

Muhyddin also said that PN will continue its fight for the welfare of people driven by their principles of 'Bersih dan Stabil' (clean and stable).

Nonetheless, Muhyiddin also congratulated PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim following his appointment as Malaysia 10th Prime Minister by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday.

In his maiden press conference yesterday, Anwar confirmed that his unity government comprises PH, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).

Anwar said the government is also supported by MPs from Warisan, Muda and Parti Bangsa Malaysia; while also extending invites to other parties who are interested to join his unity government.
