Zahid’s supporters gather to show solidarity

KUALA LUMPUR - About 70 people gather at Menara Dato Onn, here, today to show their solidarity for Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

The supporters, believed to be Umno members started to gather at 10am today.

The men, clad in red, showed their solidarity for Zahid after several parties had demanded for the latter to step down from his post following Barisan Nasional’s defeat in the last 15th General Election (GE15).

Waris Pekembar chairman Shahbuddin Embun, said that all Umno members needed to support Zahid in all circumstances.

“People are calling him to resign because of the bad result of the election, for me, it’s not fair,” he said.

“The coalition lose the seat not because of his leadership, but it’s all due to the tsunami from young voters and we need to eliminate any Umno members who are don’t agree with our president,” he said.

Shahbuddin also said that he was thankful that the anti-hopping law was in place which could promote political stability.

Meanwhile, Angkatan Pemuda Islam Batu Rodzi Tajuddin, section urge all Umno members to be faithful to Umno president and accept the unity government.

Rodzi also urged any Umno leaders to resign if they still refused to agree with Zahid.

“We lost the GE15, we lost the seats, we lost a lot but now we are finally a unity government and we are working with Pakatan Harapan,” he said.

Following BN’s defeat in the GE15, several Umno leaders demanded for Zahid to step down from his post.
