KAJANG - Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has welcomed Perikatan Nasional (PN) and other parties to join the new unity government he is leading.

Anwar, who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman, said he maintained an open view with regards to the involvement of parties in the unity government to uphold the very spirit of unity as professed by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri'ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah in his decree for the formation of the unity government.

He said this at his first press conference at the Sungai Lopng Clubhouse in Kajang after being sworn in at the Istana Negara this evening. The Tambun member of parliament was sworn in at about 5.06pm on Thursday.

The swearing in ceremony, where Anwar was handed his appopintment letter and read his oath of secrecy was conducted before the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Hajah Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

This ended the political turmoil following a hung parliament as a result of no party garnering a simple majority of 112 seats in the Dewan Rakyat, which forced the Yang di-Pertuan Agong to decree a unity government be formed led by Anwar, whose PH coalition emerged the biggest bloc with 82 seats.
