No celebration, no convoys - DAP orders its members
SHAH ALAM - DAP has ordered its members to not hold any celebrations or convoys in celebrating the appointment of Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia's 10th Prime Minister.
Party secretary-general Anthony Loke Siew Fook implored all parties to be calm, collected and the respect the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers' decision over Anwar's appointment that was announced today.
“The government that will be formed is a unity government that comprises various coalitions of political parties.
“We must work together and unite in helping the prime minister lead the country,” reminded the Loke, the Seremban MP.
PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli had earlier on made a similar call on Pakatan Harapan and PKR members, saying this was to avoid any risk of provocation.
Rafizi also advised supporters to be careful with media statements issued by other political leaders and any social media content that can be used as an excuse for provocation.
Anwar will be sworn in as PM at 5.00pm at Istana Negara today.
His appointment has effectively ended the almost-week long political limbo that ensued following the conclusion of the 15th General Election (GE).
The stalemate occurred as parties needed to at least secure 112 parliamentary seats to form government as Malaysia has a total of 222 parliamentary seats.
Pakatan Harapan (PH) has won the most seats at 82, followed by Perikatan Nasional (PN): 73; Barisan Nasional (BN): 30; Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS): 22; Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS): 7 and others: 6.
