KUALA LUMPUR - Six roadblocks were set up around the Istana Negara here to ensure public safety and order after the 15th General Election (GE15).

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Azmi Abu Kassim said a total of 632 policemen were deployed to man the six roadblocks.

"Overall, the Kuala Lumpur police have implemented 23 roadblocks throughout the capital with a strength of 104 officers and 1,336 members.

"Of that number, six roadblocks were stationed around Istana Negara," he told Sinar Harian on Thursday.

Azmi stressed the public was reminded to obey the instructions of the officers and if they were found to have committed a wrongdoing, strict action will be taken in accordance with the law.

On Wednesday, the police launched roadblocks at strategic locations in every district across the country on a 24-hour basis starting Tuesday.

Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said the move to set up the roadblock was part of the police efforts to prevent crime by increasing the level of omnipresence to ensure public safety and order.
