Jamal hits back at Zahid's haters, moots BN's dissolution

KUALA LUMPUR —Following the incessant attacks on his party president by their own allies, Umno supreme council member Datuk Seri Jamal Md Yunoos hits back at detractors, even going as far as suggesting the dissolution of Barisan Nasional (BN).

Jamal believed that the scathing remarks, particularly by MCA secretary-general Datuk Chong Sin Woon demanding for Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down as BN chairman was uncalled for.

"MCA needs to stop hiding behind UMNO and stand on its own.

"There is no use for MCA to be a component party of BN and BN should be dissolved,” Jamal told reporters before attending the Umno supreme council meeting at its headquarters at Kuala Lumpur World Trade Centre here tonight.

Chong had earlier today, called for Zahid's resignation following a leaked letter -- purportedly signed by Zahid -- that had gone viral, where the latter informed the Yang di-Pertuan Agong that all 30 BN MPs were unanimously supportive of a unity government with Pakatan Harapan (PH).

In the letter, Zahid allegedly remarked that BN also declared their support for PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to the 10th Prime Minister.

This was controversial as BN had repeatedly maintained its neutral stand over matters concerning unity government with either PH or Perikatan Nasional, stressing that it wanted to be the opposition.

Jamal also described MCA and MIC as mere representatives to the Chinese and Indian communities, whereas, Umno, he added, "is the representative to the public."

Jamal stated if Chong's opinion of Zahid represent the MCA's view, then they should have no issue competing on their own instead of only winning in Malay-majority seats.

"So, it is they who should resign and I request the BN chairman to come out with a letter expelling them,” he added.
