ALOR SETAR - Four men arrested by the police are believed to be involved in Qatar World Cup 2022 football betting last night.

Kedah Police Chief Datuk Wan Hassan Wan Ahmad said they were arrested in three 'Op Soga IX' raids around Alor Setar, Jitra and Sungai Petani.

Wan Hassan added the first raid was carried out in Pekan Anak Bukit, Alor Setar at 10pm where a 34 year old man was arrested.

He said the raid was carried out by the Crime, Vice and Gambling Division (D7) and as a result of the investigation, the suspect admitted to being involved with a betting valued at RM20,000.

"During the raid, the police also seized a mobile phone and a sum of RM385 in cash," he said when contacted.

In the second raid held in front of a restaurant in Taman Ria Jaya, Sungai Petani at 1.30am, the police arrested two men aged 22 and 26 who were also believed to be involved in the betting.

He said in that arrest, the police seized a mobile phone, a laptop and RM110 worth of cash.

"In a third raid at a shop in Kampung Kubang Chenok, Jitra a 22 year old man was also arrested at midnight.

Wan Hassan said the police will continue to track down World Cup betting activities that just started on Nov 20.
