TikTok removes videos related to May 13, zero tolerance for hate, violence

SHAH ALAM - Popular video-sharing application TikTok removes of violative content related to May 13 incident which has purportedly been shared on the platform.

The social media platform declared that it would not tolerate any form of content created to spread hate and violence on the platform, hence TikTok as on high alert to remove such contents.

“At TikTok, we have zero tolerance against any form of hate speech and violent extremism.

“As it relates to May 13 content, we quickly removed videos which were in violation of our Community Guidelines.

“We will continue to be on high alert and will aggressively remove any violative content, including video, audio, livestream, images, comments, links, or other text,” it said in a statement, today.

TikTok also encouraged the public to use the in-app reporting function to report any harmful content.

They said a prompt would appear for users to click ‘Report’ if they press and hold a video on the platform.

“Since the lead-up to the elections, we have been in constant communication with the relevant bodies, including the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission about accounts that are involved in severe or repeated on-platform violations,” the statement read.

Following the general election on Nov 19, TikTok videos related to the May 13 incident had reportedly been uploaded on the platform.

Videos about the possible repeat of the 1969 race riots, as well as conveyed anti-Chinese sentiments and openly threatened violence had allegedly been spread over social media platforms.
