GUA MUSANG - Experiencing flash floods nearly 50 times in just one year has caused deep concern and fear among families living in Kampung Batu Papan 2, whenever the northeast monsoon hits Kelantan.

A resident, Chong Lip Meng, 48, said that more than 50 families in the area have been struggling with the problem for more than five years, and there are even some houses that often become hotspots during floods.

"Every time it rains heavily for more than two hours, the water begins to rise and starts to flood the main bridge leading to my house. Six houses, including mine, are affected by flash floods.

"It is not only dangerous but also exhausting, because we have to be vigilant during the rainy season and even face the loss of property,” he told reporters when met in the village today.

A trader and gardener, Chong Yok Fon, 50, expressed her hope that the authorities take drastic measures to solve all the problems which have been plaguing the residents for several years.

Meanwhile, Galas state assemblyman, Mohd Syahbuddin Hashim, said that the problem must be addressed soon, and proactive measures must be taken, so that the real cause of the flash floods can be immediately identified and resolved. - BERNAMA
