PH-PN unity govt will remove uneasiness between Malays, non-Malays, says Tian Chua

SHAH ALAM - Activist and independent Batu candidate Tian Chua has called on two of the biggest coalition that won the Nov 19 polls to form a unity government.

He said Pakatan Harapan and Perikatan Nasional won 37 per cent and 30 per cent of the popular vote.

The former vocal PKR vice-president further said these two blocs should come together as the mandate was given to them.

He said it will also prevent anti-Malay and anti-Islam perception against Pakatan Harapan and uneasiness among non-Malays if Perikatan Nasional takes over as the government.

"If PN alone rules, there would be fears among non-Muslims that their lifestyle will be undermined.

"If PH rules, the Malays may feel their beliefs could be undermined.

"It is best for both to form a unity government to create policies that are moderate for the country," he told Sinar Daily.

He said he agrees with Umno deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan said that Barisan Nasional (BN) should accept the will of the voters who rejected the coalition in the 15th general election (GE15), and stay as the opposition.

Tok Mat also suggested for (PN) and PH to form a new coalition federal government with each other while leaving BN aside.

Tian Chua said a unity government will go far as the uneasiness between different races is curbed.

Citing an example of Tunisia in 2014, Tian Chua said the Islamist and socialist parties had agreed to work together after the Arab Spring, saving Tunisia from falling into an autocratic leadership.

"Pas and DAP too must work together in this unity government," Tian Chua added.
