SHAH ALAM - The people of Langkawi want Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to rest, this is some of the highlights in the 15th General Election (GE15) that is discussed on social media since the official results were released on Sunday morning.

It was plagued in the thoughts of many when the political figure who had contributed a lot to the country lost in Langkawi, with the saddest part when Mahathir had not only lost his seat but the deposit along with two other candidates who contested in P004 Langkawi.

The loss of the deposit meant Mahathir had achieved a low voting rate compared to other candidates, thus he lost his money contested.

In this context, it meant he lost his influence and trust in the area he led for a long time.

When Langkawi was mentioned, people would remember Mahathir as the MP.

However, in the election, he failed to defend the stronghold when he lost to the new incumbent Mohd Suhaimi Abdullah from Perikatan Nasional (PN) who garnered 25,463 votes.

The defeat of Mahathir who once had set the record of the longest-serving prime minister in Malaysia's history for 22 years was a great blow to his political career.

Many had asked Mahathir as well as loyal supporters to take this loss from a positive standpoint that was the time for Mahathir to rest and enjoy a peaceful life without thinking about the country’s problems at 97-years old.
