Shahril Hamdan resigns as Umno information chief

SHAH ALAM - Umno information chief Shahril Hamdan announced his resignation in a Facebook post today.

" True there is a concept of "collective responsibility" in a failure. True, Umno needs to consider the next step in a situation where no party reaches the figure of 112 in GE15. True, this decision is huge and needs to be made by the Supreme Working Council, not just any individual or group.” he wrote.

However, he noted, before the party were to discuss or come to any decision, there is one thing that needs to be done first.

“I agree with the YAB Menteri Besar of Johor. That is without losing respect for him as an individual, I am of the view that the number one leader, the Umno President and the BN Chairman needs to set an example by leading the process of taking responsibility for this defeat and withdrawing honourably." Shahril then went on to suggest that Zahid let the party leadership and other individuals lead the discussion to make the next big decision for Umno.

“ In the spirit of "collective responsibility", I am also resigning as the party's imformation chief. I appreciate the opportunity I have been given and will never forget it. Only, this is a much bigger issue.

Shahril insisted that he remained loyal to Umno.

" The party's struggle is not over. This is not the end,” he reminded fellow Umno members in his post.
