SHAH ALAM - The death of an Election Commission (EC) officer at Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Methodist ACS, Jalan Raya Barat Klang, has been confirmed to be due to Covid-19.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Arjunaidi Mohamed said the 46-year old EC officer was found unconscious while on duty.

"The cause of the man's death was due to Covid-19.

"All police officers on duty with the EC officer had been ordered to undergo self-quarantine," he said in a statement on Sunday.

Sinar Harian on Saturday reported that an SPR officer was found unconcious on top of a buggy while on duty at the polling centre involved.

The Klang Selatan District Police Headquarters (IPD) received the report regarding the incident at 12.15pm and the victim's body was brought to Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, Klang for an autopsy.

Arjunaidi said 393 reports were received, 82 investigation papers were opened, and seven individuals were arrested connected to offences done throughout the campaign for the 15th General Election (GE15).

He said the entirety of the voting process in Selangor went smoothly however, he still had placed teams of officers to be prepared to be mobilised at any time if necessary.

He warned the public not to spread any form of fake news that could stir up a public outcry.

"Strict actions would be taken towards any individuals that creates controversy that could threaten public order and national security," he said.
