GE15: Upko recaptures Penampang

KOTA KINABALU - United Progressive Kinabalu Orgranisation (Upko) succeeds in recapturing the party's traditional seat through the victory of its candidate Datuk Ewon Benedick with a majority of 14,410 votes.

The official results from the Election Commission (EC) stated Ewon who won under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) ticket managed to gain 29,066 votes defeating the incumbent Datuk Darell Leiking from Parti Warisan (Warisan) who received 14,656 votes.

Ewon also defeated Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate Kenny Chua Teck Ho with 6,719 votes and independent candidate Richard Jimmy lost his deposit who gained 289 votes.

The total number of voters in the Penampang Parliament was 77,214 people and the total number of votes was 50,730 with a turnout of 65.70 percent.

Darell who was the Warisan Deputy President had once been dubbed as the 'giant killer' after successfully toppling the Upko president Tan Sri Bernard Dompok in the 13th General Election (GE13).
