ARAU - A senior citizen was left shocked and confused when he found out that his name had been cut off by an Election Commission (EC) agent for having voted.

The businessman Ayub Khan Abdul Razak, 61, said he realised the matter when he was getting his name reviewed to vote at the Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Dato Sheikh Ahmad Polling Centre.

"I arrived at the voting centre at around 3.15pm and after giving my identification card to the agent in charge, they said I had voted,” he told Sinar when approached.

"I was shocked and bewildered when I was told I couldn't cast my vote because I had voted even though my finger was not marked by the blue ink.”

Ayub Khan said he asked the EC agent at the station to review his name again and received the same answer. "I was disappointed I could not vote today because a single vote is meaningful towards the candidate I am supporting.

"Because I was suspicious of this incident, I filed a police report at the Arau Police Station. At the same time I was worried how my identification card could be used by an irresponsible party," he said.

Arau District Police Chief Superintendant Ahmad Mohsin Md Rodi when contacted confirmed that he has received the report.
