GOMBAK - A mentally disturbed man was spotted causing a commotion by snatching the indelible ink and pushing the ballot box at a polling station in Ulu Yam, Hulu Selangor, on Saturday.

Inspector General of Police, Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said, the 27-year-old man grabbed the indelible ink and pushed the ballot box until it fell on the floor.

"Further inspection found that the man has a record as a mentally disturbed patient," he said at a press conference at the Gombak District Police Headquarters here on Saturday.

In addition, Acryl Sani said there were three reported cases involving voters who died while queuing up to cast their votes, namely one case in Kota Bahru, Kelantan and two cases in Johor.

Acryl Sani said, he also had time to conduct an inspection at four voting centres; Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Desa Amanpuri in Damansara; SK Intan Baiduri in Kepong; SK Setapak Indah and SK Sungai Kertas in Sri Gombak.

"I was informed by the Election Commission that almost 46 per cent of voters had casted their votes as of 12.45pm this afternoon," he said.

He said, based on the inspection conducted, many voters had flocked their polling centres in the morning causing some centres to be congested.

"However, I was informed that the congestion in several locations started to ease from 10.30 this morning, and there are places (voting centres) that no longer require people to queue outside the premises," he said.

Acryl Sani said, the situation at polling centres is expected to be quiet in the evening since many voters had already fulfilled their responsibilities in the morning.

"Although it was crowded in the morning, it was still under control. This shows that the community is matured in carrying out their responsibilities calmly and peacefully," he said.

Commenting on the preparedness of the police ahead of the announcement of the results tonight, he asked all parties to accept whatever the results may be.

"Whatever decision that is announced tonight, we hope all parties accept the decision with open arms.

"As a preparation, we are definitely ready to deal with any situation to ensure public safety and order," he said.
