Drop in number of flood victims in five states

In JOHOR, the number of flash flood victims dropped to 283 people as of 8 pm compared to 289 people this morning, following the closure of a temporary relief centre (PPS) at Dewan Utama Kampung Ithnin Maarof, Kluang.
District Disaster Management Committee, in a statement, said all the victims from 71 families were currently housed at four PPS, namely Balai Raya Kampung Batu Badak (39 people) and Dewan Komuniti Tasek, Segamat (14), Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Simpang 5 Darat (122) and Sekolah Agama Simpang 5 Darat, Tangkak (108).
"All the victims have not yet been allowed to return home due to stagnant floodwaters,” it said.
The districts of Batu Pahat, Segamat and Tangkak experienced rain, while the weather in seven other districts was reported to be sunny.
In SELANGOR, the state Civil Defence Force Disaster Management Committee Secretariat reported that the number of flood victims decreased to 1,153 people from 298 families as of 7.40 pm, compared to 1,625 people from 401 families this morning.
Some 16 PPS were still open, namely six in Sepang, four in Kuala Selangor, three in Klang, two in Sabak Bernam and one in Kuala Langat.
In KELANTAN, the number of flood evacuees in Rantau Panjang, Pasir Mas dropped to 667 people from 234 families as of 8 pm, compared to 1,053 people from 364 families in the morning.
According to the Social Welfare Department’s Info Bencana portal, all the victims were currently housed at four PPS, namely SK Tok Deh, SK Kubang Kual, PPS Putat Tujoh and SK Gual Periok.
In SARAWAK, the state Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) said three victims from one family are currently taking shelter at the PPS at Dewan Kompleks ICQS Tedungan in Limbang at of 7 pm.
In PERAK, the number of flood evacuees dropped to 844 people from 239 families as of 8 pm compared to 856 people from 235 families this morning.
Three PPS were closed, namely Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Sungai Baru Trong, Larut Matang dan Selama; Dewan Orang Ramai Kuak Luar, Hulu Perak and Dewan Orang Ramai Kampung Piandang, Kinta, taking the number of PPS currently operating to 10.
Several districts continue to record an increase in the number of flood victims, especially at the PPS at Dewan Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Abd Rahman Talib (SMART) Batu 4 and Dewan Serbaguna Kampung Padang Tembak in Hilir Perak and SMK Layang-Layang Kiri, SK Layang-Layang Kiri and SK Titi Gantong in the Perak Tengah district.
In MELAKA, the number of flood victims remained at 44 people from 10 families as of 8 pm, according to the SDMC secretariat.
In a statement, it said all the victims from the Alor Gajah district were housed at the PPS at the Durian Tunggal State Constituency Development and Coordination Committee (Japerun) office.
In PAHANG, all 10 PPS were closed in stages between 2.30 pm and 4 pm and all 347 flood victims were allowed to return to their respective homes. - BERNAMA
