Casting vote obligatory for eligible voters - Friday sermon

SHAH ALAM - Friday sermons at mosques in Selangor have set out several advices in accordance to the syarak (Islamic law) to voters who will be voting in the 15th General Election (GE15) on Saturday.

The sermon entitled "The Obligation of Voting in the Election" also described electing a leader in elections as an obligation for Muslims in the country.

"Tomorrow is polling day. Some of the advices under the syarak to the electorate among others are that it is obligatory for Malaysians who are of age to go out to vote, as the Parliament has the power to determine the framework, policy and direction of the country.

"Therefore, make sure the elected representatives are beneficial candidates who can preserve the sanctity of Islam, the rights of Muslims and the rights of all the people regardless of race.

"Muslims must choose qualified people, who will be able to solve problems faced by the country and to prevent damages, as the fiqh method "abandoning a slight harm to obtain a greater benefit"," the sermon said.

The Friday sermon also asked voters to choose those who have faith in Allah, those who are knowledgeable, possess moral values and do good deeds.

According to the Friday sermon, the electorate were advised not to choose a candidate representing a Parliament among Muslims who were corrupt.
